God Bless America–Please

Posted by on July 5, 2013

We often sing this song as though it’s our right for God to bless America. As if we’re demanding that God bless our country. Instead, we need to sing it as a prayer, a humble request for God’s favor and blessing.

Flag   God bless America, land that I love.

Stand beside her and guide her

through the night with the light from above.

From the mountains to the prairies to the oceans

      white with foam,

God bless America. My home, sweet home.

God bless America, my home sweet home.

Excellent post Mary. I once heard a pastor ask why everyone says “God bless America.” How much more should He do, considering all the blessings He’s bestowed on our country and the way we are now treating Him? It’s time to turn that around and “America bless God.”

I welcome your thoughts on this.
